Do you want to learn how to make keto and extended fasting easier?

In this podcast, I interview Jimmy Moore and we talk about how to make keto and extended fasting easier. Jimmy is the creator of the show LivinLaVidaLowCarb and is an inspiration to us all. He is also an international best-selling author and an inspiring speaker who is a highly sought-after lecturer worldwide. In this podcast, we start by talking about keto and then finish the rest of the episode by talking about “how Jimmy can get me past four days of fasting.” Overall in the episode, he gives tips on making keto easy and how to get through challenges with fasting.

Keep keto simple

Do not count net carbs.

Overall, Jimmy is an advocate of keeping keto simple. He discusses his theory on keeping total carbs 20 or less, especially when first starting a ketogenic diet. When doing keto, he says that it is best to look at total carbs versus net carbs. His newest book, Keto Clarity, helps explain this concept and the other powerful therapeutic effects of a ketogenic diet.

Increase carb intake one week before your period

According to Jimmy, it is okay to increase your carbs one week before your period if you are a menstruating woman. However, once you start your period, decrease your carb intake to what it was before your premenstrual time. Let me give you an example. Let’s say that you’ve been doing 20 total carbs per day, but now you are in your PMS time(7 days before you start bleeding).

Right now, due to PMS hormones, you are craving bread, sugar, and potato chips. Even though you may feel like it, do not give in to these carb-laden foods. However, you can increase your total carbs from 20 to maybe 30 or even 40(or higher if you can get away with it) temporarily until you start bleeding. Once you start your period, go back to 20 total carbs to help with bleeding and cramping.

Learn how to prepare for an extended fast and get tips for hunger

Keep your goals in mind, and meditation

In the podcast, Jimmy also goes through several ways to successfully prepare for your fast and deal with those times of hunger. He says that when choosing a prolonged fast, it is essential to keep your goals in mind. I could not agree more with this concept! If we have the insight of our goal in mind, then we are more apt to complete it. For example, one of my goals is to get through a four-day fast eventually. Once I visualize this goal and hold it close, I will do it!

Whether your goal with fasting is to lose weight or detox your body, you should always stick to that. On the show, Jimmy also talks about he is all about meditation when it comes to fasting. I feel like this, too is another crucial intervention to help comply with a fast.

Purchase Jimmy and Dr. Jason Fung’s Book

Another good way to prepare for an extended fast is to get Jimmy’s book on fasting that he wrote with Dr. Jason Fung. The book’s name is called, The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting. I have referred to this book repeatedly when I fast because it gives me a lot of motivation.

Use exogenous ketones when fasting

Jimmy says that exogenous ketones are beneficial when it comes to fasting. They are instrumental during the first few days of fasting when your hunger is at its peak. He says to try to go without them; however, if you feel like you need help, you can use them.

Do not tell anyone you are fasting

When you are fasting, it is crucial to keep your fast on the down-low. This intervention is to avoid any influence from others and get discouraging words such as, ” Wow, you must be starving” or “This isn’t good, you need to eat something.” Any of these words may put you down, and as a result, you will want to break your fast.

Overall, some people will probably understand the rationale of fasting. However, some people may have that “old school mentality” and think you are starving yourself. When I fast, I only tell people who are close to me who will understand and be supportive.

Journal your feelings about fasting

If you need to vent about the fast and the hunger pangs, you could always write in a journal about your feelings. When I feel stressed about not eating, I like to write down what I am experiencing. I think that writing helps me acknowledge those feelings and come to terms with the present moment.

Eat a bowl of water and salt while others are eating meals during your fast

One of the things that Jimmy mentions is to eat a bowl of water and salt while others are eating meals during your fast. This tip is excellent for water fasting! Have you had concerned children during a fast and heard one of them ask, ” Why don’t you want to eat?”? I can’t tell you how many times one of my kids has asked me this. Overall, it is difficult for children to understand the whole concept of fasting. However, if you use Jimmy’s trick of warm water and salt, it will look to your kids like you are at least consuming something!

In conclusion

In conclusion, I hope you enjoyed this interview with Jimmy Moore and learned how to make keto and extended fasting easier. Overall, the keto diet and fasting are fantastic ways to supercharge your health. Ever since I have incorporated these two concepts into my life, my health has improved a lot. If you are looking to get started into keto and fasting, you can listen to Jimmy’s show LivinLaVidaLow Carb, and you can also purchase some of his books.

Purchase The Goddess Solution and connect with your inner goddess!

Today, for Keto and Energetic Balance, I brought on Lisa Marie Rankin, the author of the new and upcoming book, The Goddess Solution. She has been a writer for a couple of years now and is an inspiration to us all. She also has a blog, where you can find her at lisamarierankin.com .Recently, I read her book, The Goddess Solution, and found it to be very intriguing. Not only can you learn to connect with your inner goddess, but you will also indirectly balance your chakras.

Lisa’s Biography

Several years ago, Lisa Marie Rankin decided to follow the path of the goddess. She left her job in the corporate world to pursue her passion for writing and teaching yoga, meditation, and spiritual concepts. Lisa Marie is also an Ayurveda wellness coach and helps women optimize their health by holistically caring for their bodies, minds, and spirits. She teaches women to reconnect with their bodies, prioritize pleasure, and rely on their inner wisdom so they can become a goddess.

Lisa Marie Rankin holds an MBA and MS from Bentley University. You can find her essays in Human Parts, a Medium publication. She lives right outside of Boston with her children, dog, and a flock of chickens. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, snorkeling, and spending time with mother nature.

Here are the show notes from some of the questions from the interview:

1. Me: What inspired you to write “The Goddess Solution”?

Lisa’s response:

I have always been interested in yoga and spirituality. Well, since college, anyways. In my late thirties, my marriage was ending, and I found myself less and less inspired by my day job. I began to look for happiness and validation through external factors like men, appearance, and career success. When that didn’t work, I found myself drinking habitually in an attempt to mask my feeling of unease. I remember saying to myself: “I don’t feel like a goddess.”

Goddesses are sovereign and shouldn’t look outside of themselves to be happy

For some reason, saying those words inspired me to start figuring out what a goddess feels like. I began to research goddesses across traditions and started a blog to explain how I experienced their presence in my life. I learned that a goddess is sovereign and whole. She doesn’t need to look outside of herself for contentment and joy – she creates it on her own. I began to practice what I was learning, and this wisdom changed the course of my life.

I moved on from my marriage and practiced what I had learned. I ended a cycle of toxic relationship patterns and minimized my alcohol consumption. I also started to take exceptional care of myself – body, mind, and spirit. When I began to take accountability for my life, I found joy, ease, and meaning.

Look within to find your inner goddess

Just as I was looking outside myself for happiness, I observed so many other women doing the same. Many women don’t feel good about themselves. They think they’ll feel better after they lose 10 pounds, get the guy, or make more money. But it doesn’t work that way! We feel better when we can learn to love ourselves unconditionally. That’s not something someone else can give us.

My book intends to teach women that they are already whole. They already possess everything they need- they don’t need to look outside of themselves. They can tap into goddess energetics to overcome challenges, experience pleasure, and create the life they were meant to live.

The goddess is unique within us

I researched hundreds of goddesses, and the ones I selected were the ones that resonated with me the most. People will experience the goddesses and their myths differently – and that’s ok. The goddess shows up uniquely for all of us, and myths evolve to fit the time, place, and person who needs them.

2. Me: Do you find a direct correlation between being a goddess and chakra balance? Do you find that yoga and meditation are the keys to assisting with the balance of the chakras and making women feel like a goddess?

Lisa’s response: I do. I think we can think of the chakra energetics as similar to goddess energetics. For example, I would consider the goddess Demeter, an earth mama representing growth, nurturance, and support, connected to the root chakra. As the root chakra, she is the energy we need to feel grounded, stable, and supported. Oshun, the Yoruba goddess of love, sensuality, and freshwater I would equate to the sacral chart. She is about connecting with our feminine energy, honoring our sexuality, and being able to receive. And we could go all the up the chakras.

I teach meditation should bring us back to the body, rather than away

I think that yoga and meditation are important parts of a goddess’s practice. However, I prefer to do meditations that bring us back into the body rather than transcend it. I often tell my students that feminine spirituality begins in the body. So, it is really about reconnecting with the body, listening to what it is telling us, and treating it with exceptional self-care (I like to call it self-worship).

Do activities to bring you back to the body

It’s also about knowing when to push your body and when to slow down. Yoga is a great practice to get into the body, but so is strength training, making love, and dance. The key is to get back in it doing something you find pleasurable!

I also think pranayama is essential to help us balance our chakras and expand our consciousness.

3. Me: What are your thoughts about mantras and affirmations? Do you hold firm in believing that they can help move energy if there is a congested chakra?

Lisa’s Response: Mantra is a great way to connect with a deity in sound form. The word mantra roughly translates to “mind protection.” Mantra is a part of my practice, as is chanting. Right now, I’ve been working with the Adi Shakti mantra.

Affirmations are great as well. They can help to rewire limiting beliefs that we tell ourselves. For each of the goddesses in my book, I have a suggested affirmation. I recommend taking some time to pick a goddess, and mantra, to work with for a little while.

I do believe that mantra can help move a congested chakra, though I might not be the best person to speak to this.

4. Me: Can you explain the masculine and feminine energies? I think some of this is pertinent for men and women to embrace their inner goddess.

Lisa’s Response: Yes! Feminine energy is intuitive, receptive, and nurturing. Masculine energy is protective, generous, and active. In a relationship, these energies complement one another. However, you might have also experienced the shadow or wounded side of these energies. Powerlessness, neediness, and manipulation show up in the wounded feminine. Dominance, aggression, and criticism are traits of the wounded masculine. Becoming aware of these characteristics allows us to heal old wounds (many have their roots in childhood) to form healthy, interdependent relationships.

We all embody masculine and feminine energy

We all embody both masculine and feminine energy, and we need both to successfully get along in the world. But generally, there is a dominant one in each of us. We can consider it our core essence. Sometimes we overcompensate in one area to get ahead in love or work (many of us have taken on more masculine energy). Sometimes we haven’t even spent the time identifying which energy makes us feel more at ease. Our dominant energy doesn’t have to match our gender, where we are on the gender spectrum or our sexual orientation. It’s an innate feeling or desire.

Understanding and managing our energy is important to feel at ease in our bodies and also to understand and work with the dynamics in our relationships.

5. Me: What are your thoughts on fasting? Do you think that it can help people reconnect with their inner goddess by going into ketosis?

Lisa’s response: I don’t know enough about fasting or ketosis to talk about this, but I know that it is difficult to connect with your inner goddess when you feel sluggish or have a lot of build-up in your body.

Agni versus Ama

In Ayurveda, there is the concept of Agni and ama. Agni is your digestive fire, and it’s the ability to digest and transform your food (and life experiences). It’s a key tenet of Ayurvedic health to keep your Agni high. You do this by not snacking, eating at the same time every day, eating the largest meal at lunch, and of course eating seasonal, local, whole foods for your body type.

Ama is the build-up we get if we’re not eating healthy – too much sugar, salt, or processed foods. It’s sort of like toxic build-up. It manifests as the white coating on our tongues in the morning, body odor, and a feeling of lethargy. We don’t want Ama! We can decrease our ama by eating clean foods and making sure we keep our Agni high (our digestive fire stoked).

Connection with your inner goddess begins in the body

Connecting with your inner goddess really begins in the body. Ancient traditions like Ayurveda and Tantra say that we are divine – we are also messy, fallible humans. But we’re both. We need to care for our bodies as if we were truly a goddess. That means considering how we move it, what we put into it, how much sleep we get, and with whom we have sex. If our body is a temple, these are all rituals!

In Conclusion

Overall, it is important to tend to your body and learn how to take care of yourself to become a goddess. If you are interested in learning about goddess teaching and how to reach YOUR “inner goddess”, then please purchase Lisa’s book, the Goddess Solution. I also recommend that you learn about each of your chakras to get to where you need to be. Keto made easy for you!

Have you been purchasing keto books or purchasing all kinds of apps for your phone to help with keto? Maybe you someone who spends a lot of time learning about keto on different platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. If this sounds like you, then learn to stop today! Keto does not have to be complicated! In fact, it is very straightforward and does not take as much effort as you think!

Stop worrying about your carbs

In this interview podcast, I brought in Amy Berger to get the low down on easy keto! She is the author of several books, which have emphasized the importance of keeping keto very straightforward. Her latest book, End your Carb Confusion, which she co-authored with Dr. Westman, does exactly what it says in the title! It truly helps to end your worrying about carbs and makes keto less stressful.

I read this book and found it to be very inspirational! If you have been doing keto for a while, but still haven’t lost weight or improved your health concerns, then I would highly recommend this book! It focuses on doing keto in three different phases. Prior to starting the keto plan in the book, you do a checklist to figure out exactly which phase you will be in. For example, if you are someone who is wanting to lose weight, has chronic fatigue, then you would start off in phase one.

If you don’t have much weight to lose and do not have a lot of health issues, then you may qualify for the second and third phases. These two phases aren’t as restrictive in limiting total carbs! Everybody is different when it comes to limiting your carbs. Some people may have to keep their total carbs under 20 grams a day, whereas some can go up to 60 grams and still be in ketosis. There is no one size fits all plan when it comes to keto!

Amy Berger’s Biography

The ketogenic diet for cancer treatment

Hi everyone! Jessica here! Today, I am going to interview Ellen Davis, who is the author of four different books. The book we will be talking about in this interview today is Fight Cancer with a Ketogenic Diet. Some of her other publications include Ketogenic diet for Type 1 Diabetes, Conquer type 2 diabetes with a ketogenic diet and Inferior Nutrition. If you or someone you know has cancer or diabetes, then purchase one of her books. She is a wealth of knowledge!

In Fight Cancer with a Ketogenic diet, she goes over the science behind using the keto diet as “metabolic therapy” to treat and prevent cancer. I read her book and was fascinated by some of the research that she did to support cancer treatment with ketosis.

The ketogenic diet as adjunctive therapy for cancer treatment

An important thing to realize is that a keto diet should be used in conjunction with other modalities for the treatment of cancer! In other words, do not quit your chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Now, if you wanted to use the keto diet alone along with other alternative therapies then that is your choice! We are all entitled to make our own decisions in this life.

Always ask for clearance to do a keto diet

If you have cancer or diabetes, it is always of utmost importance to ask your healthcare provider for clearance. The reason for this is because there are some individuals who may not be able to do a keto diet. Everyone is different!

First Question- What is the primary method that the ketogenic diet can treat cancer?

Ellen: Most normal cells in your body take incoming food particles and make energy through two different paths. The first path is glycolysis, and it does not need oxygen to make energy. This process breaks down only glucose or sugar (from carbohydrates) to produce a small amount of energy and make other molecules that feed into the second path.

The second, more robust cellular energy path (called cellular respiration) uses oxygen, and it happens within little structures called mitochondria (the cell’s powerhouses.) The mitochondrial energy path produces way more energy, and it can burn not only glucose but also fatty acids and/or ketones to make this energy.

Cancer cells have broken mitochondria

Most cancer cells have broken mitochondria, so they cannot use fatty acids or ketones as a fuel source. Their second energy path is broken. So they are dependent on the first path of using sugar (glucose) as a primary fuel. You might say that these cancer cells are sugar addicts because it’s all they can “eat,” and they need lots of it to stay alive.

When you deprive a cancer cell of glucose, it loses its fuel

When a person follows a ketogenic diet, they stop consuming carbohydrates (sugars and starches). This causes the body to switch from using glucose or sugar as the primary fuel to using fatty acids and ketones as the main fuel. Since most normal cells can burn either type of energy, they do just fine. But cancer cells can’t use both fuels; they have to have sugar to live. Hence, being in ketosis causes cancer cells to fail.. they starve for lack of fuel.

Second Question-In your book, it seems as your focus is limiting daily carb intake to under 20 total carbs. Do you think that people can still get adequate treatment for their cancer and focus on prevention if they limit their focus on net carbs, say around 20-30 net carbs instead of limiting their total carbs?

Ellen: When you are treating cancer, the lower you can go, the better. Miriam Kalamian starts her clients at ten carbs per day( total carbs) and has them test blood sugar and ketones regularly to see how they react to various foods. The goal is always to get blood sugar and insulin down as low as possible since these are two things that drive cancer. I would advise people to read my book and hers for more information on how to customize the diet for themselves.

Third Question- What is your thought on people with type 1 diabetes doing a ketogenic diet?

Ellen: Well, I wrote a whole book on it! The entire thing about diabetes is getting on a blood sugar roller coaster when you eat carbohydrates. You eat whatever the (ADA) American Dietetic Association tells you to eat, which usually includes 40-60 carbs at each meal. Your blood sugar spikes, and you have to bolus that insulin because of this increase in your blood glucose. You will end up needing about four times as much insulin, as opposed to if you ate 10-12 carbs per meal.

Fewer hypoglycemic episodes for Type 1 diabetics

It is a dangerous thing for a Type 1 diabetic because if you give that big of a bolus of insulin, there is always the danger of hypoglycemia (where your blood sugar level drops too low, and then you are in trouble). For Type 1 diabetics, a ketogenic diet is beneficial in that it smooths out those spikes of blood sugar, and you don’t require as much insulin. My co-author on that book, Dr. Keith Runyon has type 1 diabetes, that when he put himself on a ketogenic diet, he had fewer hypoglycemic episodes. They dropped from around 3-4 per week to about one hypoglycemic episode per year. Overall, he is much less in danger of a hypoglycemic episode than someone who eats a high carb diet.

Ketoacidosis and ketosis- What is the difference between ketoacidosis and ketosis? I think a lot of Type 1 diabetics seem to fear going into ketoacidosis on a ketogenic diet?

In general, ketoacidosis has two markers. Ketoacidosis starts when someone has a very high blood sugar, like 400-500, and develops very high ketones around 20 mmol/L. Whereas ketosis from a ketogenic diet, your ketones are much lower on the scale, like around1-7 mmol/ L. I have charted in my book about that, but it is a difference between a cup of water and 2 gallons. Once you implement the diet, you would be very careful about how much insulin you give yourself. I wouldn’t have a person with type 1 diabetes do it on their own unless they were very sure they could manage it by themselves. It would be best under a physician’s care, especially when they transition to doing a keto diet. Eventually, they will get used to how to do it and could manage by themself. I think it is well worth trying for a person with diabetes. I believe it can save your life and almost eliminates hypoglycemia. If you have type 1 diabetes and want some resources, I would recommend a good group on Facebook called Typeonegrit.

Fourth Question- If someone is doing a strict ketogenic diet (20 total carbs or less), can they have days to incorporate higher carbs? If so, how often? Or do you advise against this until their cancer is controlled?

Ellen: It is very individual; my friend Miriam will add a few carbs in as time goes on. The whole thrust of ketogenic treatment is to keep blood sugar and insulin levels as low as possible. Anytime a large amount of carbohydrate is eaten, blood sugar and insulin will rise dramatically, and they can feed the cancer cells. Even if you have a cheat day, it is counterproductive. That cheat day will throw you out of ketosis, and it will take you three days to get back in, and so that is a few days that you’ve lost, where you are encouraging your cancer to re-establish itself. So no, I would advise they keep carb intake controlled, low, and steady. It is entirely individual, and it is essential to remember that cancer is very psychological.

Fifth Question- What about the ketogenic diet for cancer prevention?

Ellen: I don’t know that you can prevent cancer with a ketogenic diet. There are studies where people still get cancer even while doing a ketogenic diet. Dr. Seyfried says that doing a one week fast every year or every half year could help clear out cancer stem cells. So, you could use fasting as a way to help in prevention. I think that cancer is more than a physical thing, like how is your psychology. If you’re in despair and heartbroken, you may be more prone to getting cancer. It is dangerous to think that the ketogenic diet alone will help to prevent cancer.

Sixth Question-Do you think it is necessary to do a good detox protocol when you on keto? Like with a sauna, dry brush, etc.

Ellen: I don’t know much about detoxing because haven’t studied a lot about it. I know there are some discussions about light therapy, like laying on grounding mats to help. A dentist was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and has extended his life by two years using grounding mats ( he was told he only had six months to live). Sauna treatments and hyperbaric oxygen treatment have also been mentioned for detox.

Seventh Question- What are your thoughts on keto vegan or keto vegetarian if you are undergoing treatment for cancer?

Ellen: I think one could follow a vegetarian diet and achieve mild ketosis, but I think that it’s near to impossible to get carb intake low enough for a vegan to get into ketosis. But again, it depends on the individual.

Eighth Question- What are your thoughts on metaphysical work for cancer?

Ellen: I think that cancer is not all a physical cause. I believe everything is energy, so if your life is marred by negative emotions such as hatred or despair, it will affect your overall health. It is essential to look at the blessings in your life more than you look at the negative things in your life. The more you focus on the positive, the more likely you will improve your health.

In conclusion

Overall, a choice to follow a ketogenic diet for cancer will help in treatment. If you are looking to prevent cancer, following a ketogenic diet may help. However, it is essential to keep in mind that a ketogenic diet alone will not prevent cancer! You must always think about your chakras and do things to help align your metaphysical body. If you are not sure how to do this, I would highly encourage you to listen to my other podcasts on Keto and Chakra Balance for your health.

Learn how intermittent fasting can supercharge your health

Have you hit a wall in your weight loss on your keto diet or other dietary plans? Are you looking for a way to break this stall on the scale? If so, turn to intermittent fasting to not only help with weight loss but to supercharge your health! When it comes to fasting, sometimes the word in itself can seem scary. The thought of restricting food for a period of time can seem very repulsive to people. However, one thing that you must realize is that we aren’t designed to eat three meals a day! In fact, going for a prolonged period without food is actually advantageous and can boost your brainpower.

Think about paleolithic times. Do you think they ate three meals a day? No, during the day they hunted and gathered their food during the day to feast by the fire at night. I know this isn’t the era of the saber tooth tiger or wooly mammoth, but maybe we should base our life on how they lived. It’s not healthy to always have an overabundance of food, really it’s counterintuitive. We are meant for times of famine! Think about the word breakfast – there’s two words in there. Break and fast. When you eat breakfast, you are essentially breaking your fast! The conventional world always says breakfast is most important meal of the day! This is far from the truth. Actually, breakfast is not essential and it will give you more energy throughout the day to fast right through.

Types of fasting

Before I discuss intermittent fasting health benefits, I am going to briefly go through several types of fasts. Overall, there are many different ways to incorporate fasting into your life! You can choose to eat within a time-restricted window or even a 24 hour fast on a daily basis. It is entirely up to you and there is no one size fits all type of fast. I’ve even taken on a 3 day fast before and found out that it was absolutely rejuvenating. An important thing is to always make sure that you clear fasting with your health care provider before delving in.

Eating within a window of time / 16:8 method

This happens to be my favorite type of fast and it is easy to incorporate into your everyday life! In this type of intermittent fast, you are mostly eating within an 8-hour timeframe and fasting for 16 hours. For example, if you finish eating by 8 PM, then you wouldn’t partake in any food until noon the next day. This is the standard time frame for this protocol, but you can fast longer! In fact, the longer you stay in the fasted state, the more metabolic practice you will get at burning stored body fat, and the deeper your fat adaptation will get1.

Generally, if one of my patients wants to take on this type of fast, I tell them to start with smaller increments of the fasting intervals. For example, start by ending your meal in the evening around 7 pm in the evening, and do not partake in breakfast until about 7 am the next day. This would allow you to start the fast at a 12-hour interval and then you can gradually increase to the desired interval of 16 hours. As I mentioned earlier, you can go past the 16-hour fasting interval if you want and narrow your window of eating. For example, maybe you want to stop eating a 7 pm at night and then fast for 20 hours, which will allow you to eat around 3 pm the next day. You then could then choose a 4-hour interval ( which would mean you would eat between 3 to 7)instead of an 8 hour one. If you do choose a longer fasting interval, that is very beneficial for you in terms of fat-burning and cellular repair!

24-hour fasts

This method of intermittent fasting is just as it seems, you fast for 24 hours at a time. Essentially, you could have an eating interval from 5-6 PM and then eat the next day at 6. As long as your fasts are 24 hours, then you have conquered this method! I would recommend only embark on this mission once you have conquered at least fasting for 20 hours at one time.

I must say that this is excellent for weight loss but can be challenging for hunger pangs. Fasting for 24 hours can be severe for some people, but eating a high-fat, low-carb diet can make a 24-hour fast easier, as a higher fat diet will tend to normalize your hunger hormones and provide improved satiety for a more extended period of time.

If you are already on a keto-based diet and want to do a 24 hour fast, you can start off by doing 16 -20 hour fasts first and then slowly taking on the longer fast. The key is to go slow at first and not jump right into a 24 hour fast because it may place more stress on your body than it can actually endure.

5:2 fasts

This one is very similar to the 24-hour fasts except for it’s only two days a week, and on those days as women, you restrict your calories to around 500. On the other days, you would just eat like you normally do on a ketogenic diet or whatever diet plan you choose. I have tried this method and I must say that I really like it. There have been days where I have thought that I would fast all throughout the day and then I end up eating. In this case, I didn’t ruin my fast because I still did not eat very much and kept myself into ketosis.

Water fasts for longer than one day

This one is like it sounds! Drinking only water for a couple of days or longer! Or you can modify it by drinking coffee, tea or broth. Back in March of this year, I did a 3 day fast and only consumed coffee, tea, and broth. In my coffee and tea, I did not put anything in it and consumed a bone broth. I found that this fast made me feel really good, even though I did get some detox symptoms such as chills and malaise on the second day.

An important thing to remember about this fast, is that it should only be done under the supervision of a healthcare provider. The reason for this is because of how much your body detoxes and the symptoms you may experience from this process. Some other symptoms that you may experience, include heart palpitations and other headaches. I don’t recommend this type of fasting unless you are personally adapted to fasting and have done intermittent fasting for a protracted period of time.

Detox symptoms

Before we go any further and discuss intermittent fasting health benefits, I would like to brief you on detox symptoms. I am really going to elaborate on this one. Detox symptoms are very common when on a keto diet (hence the “keto flu”) or when fasting because as your body eliminates fat cells, waste is also released. That is why it is extremely important to detox when you are taking on longer fasts or on a strict keto diet. One of the best ways to detox is through a sauna. Boy, I wish I had had my sauna when I did that fast back in March! It would’ve helped a lot with the detox symptoms I was experiencing. I am starting to get the gumption up to do another one, now that I have a sauna. I can’t believe I haven’t done a long fast since then haha. Sorry, it is hard for me to take on longer fasts like that because I really love food!

If you want to read more about a sauna, please consult my article called, ” Seven ways sauna therapy will heal your body.” A sauna is good for more than detox, it is also essential for body rejuvenation. I would highly recommend that you purchase one!

Purchase a copy of Dr. Jason Fung’s Guide to intermittent fasting

If you are wanting really good savvy resource on fasting, I would recommend you to purchase Dr. Jason Fung’s complete guide to fasting.

In this publication, he goes over all types of fasting from intermittent to extended day fasting. He describes how he has helped patients heal their type 2 diabetes by taking on 2 weeks fasts or longer! Believe it or not, people can fast for this long! Usually after a few days, the hunger pangs dissipate, which makes it a lot easier to fast.

Benefits of fasting

Okay, so now we are ready to dive into the juicy intermittent fasting health benefits. Yay! It is so amazing that restricting your food can be so beneficial for your body. Who would have thought? I remember when I first heard about fasting, I thought how crazy is it to skip a meal, or even not eat for a day or more. However, once I learned about the benefits, I became very motivated to take on fasting. Once I incorporated fasting, I was so happy that I did!

Benefit #1- Intermittent fasting promotes weight loss

This may be an obvious benefit, but it is still worth talking about! There are people that I know who have lost weight by IF and eating whatever they wanted by just eating once a day. Yes, it’s true. Now, yes these people still did limit their portion sizes, but needless to say they did eat whatever they want.  If you are one of those who have difficulty with a keto diet, then this may be something you try. Now, I do not recommend that you go to the extreme and eat doughnuts, cookies, cake, or junk food. I am sure that people have gotten by with intermittent fasting and eating junk food, however, I do not recommend this at all! I think you should still follow some sort of diet regimen such as paleo diet to stay in at least a mild ketosis and get nutritional benefits.

If you are going to fast and eat only once or twice a day, I think you need to make sure that the food you eat counts. If you consume nothing but junk food are you really giving your body the nutrients it needs? No, you are not. Even if you are losing the weight, you are not giving your mitochondria the fuel it needs.

How IF helps with weight loss

The way intermittent fasting helps with weight loss all has to do with improving the use of your insulin. There are two ways that it does this:

  1. Decreases your insulin sensitivity, which in turn can help prevent weight gain and reduce your risk of diabetes.

  2. Second, fasting decreases your insulin levels, which can cue your body to start burning stored fat instead of glucose.

Intermittent fasting works very similarly to a keto diet. Imagine how much insulin use is improved if you do both keto and IF! This would be a powerhouse for your body! One question that always seems to come up about IF is this, ” If I skip meals doesn’t that slow down my metabolism?” That is such an old school and conventional question. Believe it or not, it turns out that fasting increases your metabolism.

When you fast, your body is getting energy from burning fat rather than burning food. Also, adrenaline is used to release stored glycogen and to facilitate fat-burning, even if blood sugar is high. The increased adrenaline levels invigorate us and stimulates our metabolism 1. So tell your mother or best friend that they are wrong and to do more research on fasting and weight loss!

Benefit # 2- Improved energy and moods

Improved energy and moods are one of the intermittent fasting health benefits. Do you have periods of feeling low on energy or do you snap at your loved ones? Yes, I too have been there. If this is you, then consider taking on intermittent fasting. Everyday we tend to take on all these hats and there are increased societal pressures to do so much! The good news is that fasting helps your mitochondria, which will, in turn, give you more steps in your stride to deal with the everyday rat race. Improved energy is one of the many benefits of intermittent fasting for your health!

How does intermittent fasting improve energy and moods?

The way IF does this is by mitochondria regeneration, and when you fast you create new mitochondria. Yes out with the old and in with the new! Improved energy also has a lot to do with the adrenaline that is released from the stored glycogen. You are essentially getting energy from burning fat rather than from food 2! It helps with your moods because you are burning ketones and that is the preferred fuel to your brain. When your brain has its preferred energy, it puts you in a better mood.

Benefit#3- Improved mental clarity

Are you looking to improve your memory or concentration? Do you struggle with mental fogginess? If this is you, then try some intermittent fasting to help! When you eat, your body has to focus on the digestive process, which can be very complex. However, when you fast, your body doesn’t have to think about digestion! Your body is now focusing on producing ketones from burning fat and it is fueling your brain! According to Sayer Ji 2, dietary restriction increases the number of newly-generated neural cells in the adult brain. In other words, it may increase the brain’s capacity for plasticity and self-repair.

If I know I need to have a lot of mental power to do something, I like to take on a fast. In fact, the days that I work are my preferred days to fast because I know I need the most mental energy to problem solve. As a provider, I have a big responsibility so I like to make sure that mentally I am the sharpest when figuring out what to do for my patients. Fasting gives me what I need to do this!

Benefit #4-Improved women’s health and a decrease in breast cancer recurrence

Improvement in your womanhood is another one of the many intermittent fasting health benefits. It has been found over and over that diet and reproduction have a mutually beneficial relationship. Overweight and obesity in early adulthood appear to increase the risk of menstrual problems, hypertension in pregnancy, and subfertility3. Fasting can be prescribed as a safe medical intervention as well as a lifestyle regimen that can improve women’s health in many folds3.

One of my favorite things about fasting is that it can help prevent breast cancer from reoccurring! There was a study by JAMA oncology that goes through how fasting for at least 13 hours can reduce a women’s risk for breast cancer recurrence4.

Benefit #5- Can help with skin elasticity and decrease aging

Improved skin elasticity has to be one of my favorite intermittent fasting health benefits!  That’s right beautiful glowing skin and fewer wrinkles via a natural anti-aging regimen.  Tired of Botox and expensive skin regimens? That’s right IF has you covered and may even save you some money. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to naturally decrease the rate at which aging happens? I mean come on!

How fasting slows down the aging process

There are actual mechanisms in which fasting may actually lengthen life and slow down the aging process. It does this by autophagy up-regulation, improved stress resistance, and mitochondrial efficiency. These are among the cellular functions needed to hold off features associated with accelerated aging, such as free radical generation, excess caloric intake, chronic hyperglycemia, and fat accumulation 5. One study found that mice on fasting protocols lived around 83 percent longer than their normal-eating rodent friends6 .

Fasting makes you less vulnerable to the stress of the environment

In humans, a 2008 Ramadan study found that fasting protected body lipids from oxidative stress 7. Although several theories have been proposed to explain the anti-aging effects of caloric restriction, one hypothesis proposes that it acts by decreasing oxidative stress. In layman’s terms, intermittent fasting encourages your body to destroy damaged cells it no longer needs which, in turn, makes you less vulnerable to the stress of your environment.

Fasting to regenerate your skin cells

When I speak of damaged cells in your body, then, of course, I am also referring to those of the skin.  That being said, I still also think it is good for you to use a good skin-care regimen that is organic-based and free from harsh chemicals.

In conclusion

Overall, there are many intermittent fasting health benefits. I only had time to cover a few of them in this podcast! However, I do suggest that you do your own research and discover more of them for yourself. The more you understand the multi-faceted benefits of taking on fasting, the more apt you will want to do it in the long run. In fact, when I do take on a fast, I find that reading about the benefits of fasting helps me to be more compliant with doing a fast. I think it really helps to reiterate those things to yourself, so you can have a reminder of the good that you are doing for your body!

Does it really have to be Keto versus Vegan?

Hi everyone, Jessica here. I am sorry that it has been so long since I have published a podcast!  I have had to get my life back in order, I recently moved and I had to slow down to take out time for family.  Anyway, I am ready to get back to business! That means I am ready to get back to helping you acheive your goals!

Choose both for ultimate healing power!

In this episode, my primary focus is to show you that there is no such thing as keto vs vegan. You can absolutely have the best of both worlds! In fact, it is much encouraged for you to do both.

The benefits of doing both numerous! You get to take the mitochondria fueling fats from the keto world and the energizing vegetables from the vegan world. The result is a nutrition powerhouse! Say goodbye to the processed meats, cheese, and dairy out of the keto and the bread, pasta, and beans out the vegetarian!

Are you not ready to part with some of these food items? No problem! You will not have to eliminate the carbs forever. You will simply learn to intermittently cycle them in your diet a few days a week after doing at least 2-3 weeks of strict keto.

If you know me, then you know that  I am not a big proponent of long-term carb restriction! There are several different theories on this, but overall the keto diet is meant to be cycled off and on throughout the year! I will explain this more when I discuss keto-carb cycling!

An important takeaway is to remember that before even choosing between keto vs vegan, you need to make the ultimate decision to consume foods to fuel your mitochondria and avoid those that are highly processed. I think one of the things that turned me into the keto vegan or vegetarian is the relentless times I have explained to people that hot dogs, sausage, and other processed meats are not healthy. I have had many people ask me, “well isn’t it low carb?” Well, yes it is, but you are putting carcinogens into your body. It doesn’t count!

Keto diet and chakra balance

Okay, before you even decide on a keto vs vegan lifestyle, I would like to reiterate the importance of incorporating chakra balance into your life. I feel that before you start any type of diet, you should always lay the groundwork for mental stability. By this I mean, get your head screwed on straight! If you don’t have the right attitude or don’t pay attention to your chakra centers, then it will be hard to follow any kind of diet.

Once you are done listening to this podcast, I highly recommend you refer back to my following two podcasts, which are Keto diet and chakra balance for your health and How balancing your solar plexus chakra can help with weight loss.  I would recommend that you first listen to the Keto diet and chakra balance for your health and then proceed on to the one about the solar plexus. In order to learn the most, I would listen to the whole season of podcasts regarding the Keto diet and chakra balance for your health! All of it is pertinent to your success on the keto diet!

Getting started on the keto vegan diet

Necessary tools

Ketone monitoring devices

Prior to starting your keto vegan diet, it is necessary for you to gather all of the supplies that you need. The tools that I recommend include the Keto mojo blood monitoring device and the Breathalyzer. You can also purchase urine test strips for monitoring, even though I am not a big proponent of these due to accuracy. It is best to monitor your ketones through your blood! I will discuss more about the Keto-Mojo in a little bit!

Carb monitoring

Another critical component to monitoring your keto diet is by calculating your net carbohydrate intake. The best way to do this is by using the Cronometer app!  I love this app because it makes carb monitoring very user friendly. All you have to do is download onto your phone and then enter in your biometrics. You get to pick which type of keto diet you would like such as rigorous or relaxed. I tend to like the relaxed or moderate version because it allows for around 40-50 net carbs per day. However, if you are dealing with a long-term illness such as chronic fatigue, it may be advantageous for you to do a rigorous setting, which is 20 net carbs or under.

Overall, I find it very difficult to stay under 20 net carbs. If I want to do an aggressive keto, I tend to like to go with staying under 30 net carbs. I think that this is a sufficient number which will still give your mitochondria a boost, while allowing for you to get into a deep ketosis. Personally, I think that this makes it easier for people who are keto vegans, such as myself.

When you decide to go with Cronometer, I would highly recommend that you purchase the Gold version. It allows for more in-depth monitoring of your keto diet and incorporates an intermittent fasting component. If you are interested please go to my show notes and click the Cronometer link.

Purchasing a scale

Okay, so now we get to talk about a scale ! First off, if you don’t own a scale then I would recommend that you purchase one. Overall, I have seen more success with my patients who own a scale. I know they sometimes can not be fun, but they are essential for compliance. Even if you don’t weigh yourself every day, that is fine. Maybe make it a point to weigh yourself at least once a week at the same time for consistency.

Foods

The foods that you pick are not keto vs vegan type foods. They are incorporated into a keto vegan food! You will focus on good healthy fats and delicious vegetable recipes. In the future, I am going to be coming up with a 30 day meal plan for those of you who want to tread in the Keto Vegan world. One thing to keep in mind is that Keto Vegan is not the same as Keto Vegetarian. If you are wanting a keto vegetarian approach, you would just follow the keto vegan diet plan but incorporate eggs or fish.

The most common foods for a keto vegan lifestyle include the following:

Good fats

avocados or avocado oil , grass-fed butter, ghee, grass-fed tallow, coconut oil, cacao butter, olives or olive oil, sesame oil, MCT oil. This also includes:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  organic pastured eggs (vegetarian), raw nuts such as macadamias, animal-based omega 3 fats such as wild-caught Alaskan salmon (for the keto vegetarian), and various seeds (pumpkin, sesame, cumin, and hemp).

Proteins

Hempeh, Tempeh, Tofu( must be organic because of soy), nuts (macadamias, almonds, pecans, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts), and seeds( flax, hemp, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, psyllium seeds).  For Keto vegetarian, any type of fish or eggs, depending on which type of keto vegetarian you are-pescatarian or lacto-ovo-vegetarian.

Strict Ketosis for 30 days then integrate carb-cycling

I highly recommend that you try to commit at least 30 days to a strict keto, which means 50 net carbs or less. You may find that you have to go under 35 net carbs to really get into good effective ketosis. If so, then that’s okay! You can always go back to 50 net carbs a day once you are in good fat-burning mode. You will find your sweet spot after a while!

If it seems too difficult to commit to a month of strict keto, at least try 2 weeks! You will find that you will feel so good after the 2 weeks is up, you may want to go for a longer period of time! Most people that I talk to feel this way!

After you have done your strict keto stint, then start incorporating a higher amount of carbs about 2-3 days a week. Now, when I say higher carbs, I mean a net carb amount of about 100-150 net carbs those days. These are the days to incorporate nutritious foods such as mangoes, basmati rice, sweet potatoes, and other foods that have a higher nutrient value but are high in carbs.

Also, those days are not a time to binge on junk food! You don’t want to undo everything you created!

Purchase a sauna to help with detox from keto flu

A sauna is a perfect method to help detox when you are burning ketones. As I mentioned earlier, when you go into ketosis, you are essentially burning fat stores first in your liver and then in your body. While this is great and is improving your health, you also need to detox. There are several ways that you can detox, but my favorite one is a sauna.

When you choose to use a sauna, you are passively sweating out toxins from your body. In turn, this will give your liver a break that it needs. Some people ask me, ” Well, what about my long hours at the gym? Doesn’t that help to eliminate toxins? ” The answer to this is yes it does, but not as much as when you use a sauna. You see, it all comes down to active versus passive sweating.

Passive versus active sweating

When you passively perspire, you eliminate all kinds of toxins in your body, such as heavy metals, mold, and more! When you exercise you are incorporating active sweating, which is considered   “fight-or-flight time” and your body is allocating energy toward your muscles, lungs, and heart. However, when you passively sweat, with sauna therapy, your body is heated from the outside rather than from within, a much more restful state. Passive sweating allows your body to use the energy generated from the incandescent lamps to heal and repair itself, as it decides that this is an excellent time to release toxins through your sweat.

Benefits of sauna therapy

Sauna therapy has a range of benefits! Anything from helping to alleviate muscle aches to assisting with cancer treatment. It actually has been linked to direct cancer cell death.  Even the Greek physician Parmenides said, “Give me the power to create fever, and I will cure any disease.3”

The magic of hyperthermia is wonderful! The principle of hyperthermia is that cancer cells are much more sensitive to and intolerant of the effects of excessive heat than normal cells. Tumors have an impaired ability to adapt their blood circulation to the effects of high temperatures. Since cancer cells are weaker than normal cells, they are more susceptible to damage from the heat provided by the sauna3

.According to the National Cancer Institute, “Hyperthermia (also called thermal therapy or thermotherapy) is a type of cancer treatment in which body tissue is exposed to high temperatures. Research has shown that high temperatures can damage and kill cancer cells, usually with minimal injury to normal tissues. Many studies have shown a significant reduction in tumor size when hyperthermia is combined with other treatments4.”

Choose wisely when purchasing a sauna!

If you would like to proceed with a sauna purchase, I have two companies that I would recommend. The main reason I recommend these companies is because they both have saunas which incorporate near-infrared light. When you are opting to get a sauna, you want to make sure that yours has the ability to do near-infrared light for optimal mitochondrial healing.

Which company you choose, will depend on your preference. I recommend that you go to my article on the blog called, Seven ways sauna therapy will heal your body. In this post, I discuss the two companies I recommend and what I like about each. This article also delves into some other great benefits of sauna therapy.

Ketone and Glucose/GKI sweet spot

Alright, so now let’s talk about the fun part! Monitoring your ketones! It is so great when you get to see the results of all of your efforts. I encourage people to monitor their ketones often because it helps in terms of compliance. There is something about knowing that you’re in ketosis and realizing that you are earning the fruits of your labor.

The choice in how often you should monitor your ketones is completely up to you! However, I do recommend that you check them at least once per day, especially in the first couple of weeks. During this time, your body is making a big transition and anything can affect your ability to make ketones. When you are constantly monitoring your ketones, then you know which foods will throw you out of the ketone range you would like to be in.

For example, say your going along and you are in good ketosis of around 1 mmol/L. You feel so good, that you decide to eat a banana. Please don’t be surprised if when you check your ketones again, that you may be producing very little ketones if any at all! It doesn’t take much! Not that a banana is bad for you, but it can deter your efforts when you are trying to get into good ketosis for the first initial weeks of doing keto.

What is the ideal ketosis range?

As long as you maintain ketosis of 0.5-1.5 then you are in a good spot for weight loss! I have found that I feel the best around a blood ketone level of 1-1.5. Everyone is different, what works for you may not work for someone else. If you feel better with more carbs, then just try to keep your ketone level around 0.5. If you are dealing with a chronic disease or even cancer, you may opt to have a higher ketone level around 1.5  or even more!

Choose a good tool to monitor your ketones

When it comes to checking your ketones, the most accurate way is to check them in your blood. Yes, this involves sticking your finger, but it is the go-to method for doing a keto diet.  The main reason that blood monitoring is the best mainly because the critical ketone used by the body is beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), which is carried through the blood so it can get to the cells to be used for energy and fuel. Since our blood ketone levels are not profoundly affected by different variables (unlike ketones in the breath or urine), blood ketone testing is the most accurate representation of how many ketones we are producing.

Buy a Keto-Mojo Meter to monitor your ketones!

If you are interested in purchasing a device for monitoring your blood ketones, then I would recommend the Keto-Mojo meter. The great thing about this meter is that it also can monitor your glucose level. Tracking your blood sugar is also very important because it gives you an idea of how effective your keto diet has been. Overall, you want to try to opt to have your sugars in the 80s range. It is also important when it comes to figuring out your GKI.

What’s all this talk about GKI?

GKI or also known as the Glucose Ketone Index, is a simple formula that tracks the ratio of blood glucose to ketones as a single value5. But more important, it’s a biomarker for tracking your metabolic health as well as your level of ketosis, and it’s easily tracked if you have blood glucose and ketone testing meter like Keto-Mojo.

When I am doing a strict keto, I try to figure out my GKI at least once every few days. If you go to the Keto-mojo website, they have a calculator there that can assist you in figuring this out. All you do is put in your blood glucose along with your ketone value. Your blood glucose does matter too when it comes to ketosis!

GKI values

If you are wanting to maintain a healthy lifestyle or lose weight, then you would opt for a GKI between 6-9. If you have some long-term disorder, such as type 2 DM or insulin resistance then you need to be between 3-6.  For someone undergoing cancer, epilepsy, or some sort of chronic inflammatory disease, then you would need to go even lower like between 1-3!  Please go to my show notes to access the GKI calculator on the keto-mojo website.

All you do is click on one of the Keto-mojo links and go to search at the top and type in GKI.

Do you suffer from anxiety?

Do you live with anxiety on a daily basis? Maybe you live in constant worry about everything. Do you feel like as soon as you stop worrying about something, you find another thing to worry about? There are numerous things that we can feel anxious about on a day to day basis.  If you suffer from anxiety, then learn to feel better with Crown Chakra opening.  When we learn to open the Crown Chakra, we learn to connect with the universe and God. We are more apt to trust our life path and to understand our own identity. Even if you don’t have anxiety, and feel like you may be out of place in life, it will benefit you to learn to open up the Crown Chakra.

Overview of the Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is located at the top of your head and extends a few inches above your headspace. It governs the top of your head, your nervous and lymphatic systems, and your brain 1. When you Crown Chakra is open and functioning well, you feel intimately aware of your connection to God/Source/Creator energy 2.   This happens to be my favorite chakra! I love it because not only is it associated with the color purple, but when it is open we have a sense of what our higher purpose may be!  When it is open it is considered the portal to divine oneness, the universe, and cosmic consciousness3. The other name for this chakra in Sanskrit is Sahasrara. The Crown Chakra opens when we have attained psychological maturity and spiritual development4 .

How do you know if the Crown Chakra needs opening?

If you feel disconnected to God or whomever you regard in a higher power, then your Crown Chakra needs opening. If you struggle with anxiety and live in constant worry, then this chakra may be blocked. When the Crown Chakra is not working, you may also experience depression, fear, and overall dissatisfaction with life. If you find that you are moping around and don’t know what the next step is, then it is time to take time and balance this chakra.

Physical dysfunctions if the Crown Chakra is not balanced

If your Crown Chakra is not in order, it could lead to several different disorders which are mostly psychological or energetic. Some of these include energetic disorder, depression, chronic exhaustion that is not linked to a physical disorder, extreme sensitivity to light, sound, and other environmental factors. You also may experience some confusion and apathy along with feeling isolated5 .

What can cause your Crown Chakra to be off-kilter?

Anxiety

I have had anxiety for years and I have found that focusing on my Crown Chakra has served me well. I have found meditation to be extremely helpful in terms of refreshing my mind. If you have ever suffered from anxiety, you know that it can really affect your day-to-day functioning. Sometimes it may seem that we never get a break during the day and we are bombarded with mental clutter.  When this happens, you need to stop and refresh your brain.

Even if you think that you don’t have time, make time! It is so important to show up for yourself. How can you be productive if your mind feels anxious and your on overdrive? Sometimes, your sympathetic nervous system takes over, and you have to show it who is boss. The sympathetic nervous system is great for times when we have to run from a saber-tooth tiger, but sometimes it still works when we don’t need it. It is like a car that continues to operate on overdrive when it is not necessary. After a while, if you are still functioning in overdrive, your body becomes exhausted and you can develop adrenal fatigue.

Lack of belief in a higher power

If you struggle to believe in God or in any higher power, then your Crown Chakra probably needs opening. As humans, we are meant to have this belief in a supreme being and divinity. If we don’t, then it can lead to some of the physical dysfunctions that I mentioned above. Even if you don’t believe in God, you should foster the belief that there is a higher power that is looking out for you. I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I did not look forward to going to Heaven one day. This chakra is about surrendering to this higher power and realize that you do not have all control. This is a very humble position to take, as a lot of us crave control over our lives.

Inability to see the larger picture

Can you see the big picture when doing things? Do you stop and frequently wonder why you hesitate to do things such as go to work, take care of your kids or eat healthily? If you have a hard time connecting all of these things that you do on a daily basis, then you may need Crown Chakra opening. For example, if you think that you are a slave to society because you have to go to work then your Crown Chakra may be blocked. Believe it or not, you should want to go to work. Not only to make money but to attain that higher connection with yourself.

When you go to work, you should stop and think, ” wow, I am so glad to have a job, so many people are out of work due to COVID-19.” If you say this to yourself, you will see a bigger picture and realize that you were meant to do your job not only for money but for a purpose in society. If you think this way, it may be easier to go to work because you will see that there is a meaning behind the act of going to work besides money. Remember money is not everything and those that are driven behind this concept are egotistical. If you let your ego get in the way, then your Root Chakra could be off.

Crown Chakra balancing

Okay, so not I am going to go into balancing the Crown Chakra. There are many practices that can help maximize spiritual and psychic powers.  Remember if you are seeking spiritual purification you should do some of these alone, and not let anyone you are trying to balance your Crown Chakra.

Intermittent Fasting or prolonged fasts

Yes, fasting can help with Crown Chakra opening.  How does fasting open up this chakra? Well, it all comes down to those ketones! When you fast for prolonged periods of time, you go into ketosis.  Remember, if you listened to my previous podcasts, you will remember that your brain prefers ketones. When the brain is happy, you will be happy!  If you go for an even longer period of time, you go into gluconeogenesis and you can clean up your liver and detox. I love fasting, it is one of my favorite ways to clear my mind and become spiritually connected. Think about it, when you eat, your body is spending its precious energy on digesting and processing food. How can it spend time on feeling good and becoming spiritually aware, when it has to go through the complex process of digestion.

Fasting gives your body a break

Conversely, when you fast, you are giving your body a break and it can focus on repair of your cells and more.  If your provider is okay with it, I would advocate intermittent fasting on a daily basis. If you are interested in learning how to intermittent fast, I suggest going to my blog and click intermittent fasting. There I have several articles, which will teach you how to intermittent fast.

However, if you want to partake in a long fast, you should do under physician supervision. The reason for this is because sometimes you will detox your body so much that you could have palpitations, chills, etc. Even though detox is good, there are dangers to it as well. You see in our fat stores and in our liver, we retain so many toxins. When we fast, we release these toxins, which is good, but you can develop side effects.

In order to help with side effects when you fast, you can drink bone broth but I think the best way is to buy a sauna. When I fast, I always make sure I get in the sauna to help eliminate all those bad toxins. I recommend purchasing a Therasauna. If you are interested, please send me a message at [email protected].  The longest fast that I ever did was 3 days, and boy was that tough! I did consume coffee and bone broth, but I still struggled with hunger pangs but after the first day they got better. At the end of the three days, I had the most amazing mental clarity and even though doing a fast like that was tough, I would do it again just for how great I felt.

Meditation

Intermittent fasting

Meditation is great for opening the Crown Chakra, especially in combination with fasting. When I first started this blog, I wrote an article called The reason intermittent fasting can improve meditation and yoga.

In this article, I explained how if you meditate will fasting, you will have a much deeper and powerful meditation. The reason for this has to do with mental clarity. Fasting is a yogic practice because it reduces the tamasic element in the body. Tamas is the greatest obstacle to meditation. We CANNOT progress in meditation with a weak mind. If your stomach has food in it during meditation then the mental focus is not as well. Think about how you feel after eating a large meal. Some of the best yoga practices in your life can happen while being completely empty. You may be able to actually feel your internal organs, twist deeper and get into the meditative quality of the practice while on a fast.

Get in the “zone”

Prior to meditating for the Crown Chakra, it is is important to clear out your mind. Again, when we are focusing on the Crown Chakra we are connecting spiritually, so it is even more important to have nothing on your mind. I know this is easier said than done! I have been there many times.

Essential oils and gemstones

Prior to starting your meditation, go ahead and diffuse essential oils that pertain to your Crown Chakra. I also would take the essential oil and rub it on the appropriate gemstone, to release the energy of the gemstone.  The oils include frankincense, peppermint, sandalwood, and lotus. I would also recommend using the gemstones that are appropriate to Crown Chakra opening, which includes amethyst, clear quartz, Herkimer diamond, labradorite, moonstone, and white topaz6.  As I have mentioned in previous podcasts, I have a gemstone and essential oil set, which I highly recommend. It is found on my recommendations page under, Chakra balancing.

Solfeggio Frequencies

Make sure prior to your meditation,  the lighting in your room is dim. I would also recommend that you have an eye mask to improve the relaxation experience. Next, place on some meditation music. I would recommend Solfreggio frequencies not only because it’s relaxing but it is actually therapeutic for your body and soul. Each Solfeggio tone is comprised of a frequency required to balance your energy and keep your body, mind, and spirit in perfect harmony.

In 1988, Biochemist Glen Rein, PhD, converted and recorded Solfeggio scale Gregorian chants to scalar audio waves. The results were played to test tubes containing DNA. By measuring UV light absorption, Rein could document the effect of the music on DNA. He also compared the chants with other forms of music, including rock. While rock music had little or no influence, the chants caused a marked increase of light absorption, up to nine percent, leading Rein to conclude that Solfeggio scale sound frequencies cause resonance in DNA, and may have healing properties.

Set aside a small amount of time with little distractions

After you are ready and have got you oil, gemstone, and music, then make sure you set aside at least 5 minutes ( Or more) where you have no distractions. This is important for generating those healing brain waves! You want to at least get to an alpha brain wave state, if not even deeper to theta brain waves. Sometimes, even deeper to delta waves.

Theta Waves

4.5 Hz – Brings you into what is referred to as “the Tibetan state of consciousness”, a state of meditation.

Delta Waves

4Hz – Enkephalin release for natural stress and pain reduction. Improved memory, subconscious learning, and problem-solving.

Yoga

When it comes to yoga, it is important to focus on headstands to increase blood flow to the head, which makes you ready to receive information from the Divine7. Headstands are an advanced yoga position and have a high risk of injury, so you must have a trained yoga instructor around to assist you in this. Another way that you may able to experience Crown Chakra opening would be to do Child’s pose, which is very simple. I have been doing yoga almost every day for a year and I am not able to do a headstand without assistance. Hope to get their one day! Remember, when you do yoga, it is important not to rush your practice and enjoy the process.

Other tips for Crown Chakra opening

Foods

Things like mushrooms, garlic, ginger, onion, lychee, coconut, and other tropical fruits help to give you strength and power. If you are feeling like you have succumbed to things in life, then incorporate other types of white foods to assist in your healing.

Incorporate gratitude

Do you take things for granted in life? If so, then your Crown Chakra probably needs opening! I would highly recommend that you learn to incorporate gratitude in your life, in order to balance this chakra. As I have mentioned before, if you struggle to see the big picture and feel bitter about your job, then it would help to start to be thankful you have a job! I have written an article on gratitude, I suggest that you refer to it, as I have listed five health benefits of finding gratitude in your life.

Wear colors for Crown Chakra opening

The colors for the Crown Chakra opening include purple and white. When you wear these colors, it will actually help you to be able to visualize these colors, which is very important for Crown Chakra opening.

Keto diet for Crown Chakra opening

Lastly, I am going to mention the keto diet. If you have listened to my previous podcasts, you probably already know how the Keto diet will open the Crown Chakra. If not, then listen. The Keto diet will help open the Crown Chakra because it provides precious ketones, which the brain prefers over glucose. When you are making ketones, your mind is sharper and happier, which will allow you to be more confident in seeing the big picture.

When monks fast for a prolonged time, they are making ketones that allow their minds to have more clarity and be spiritually connected. Now, if you don’t want to incorporate fasting in your life, then the Keto diet is a better alternative. When you are making ketones, you are almost mocking a fasting state because you can become in deep ketosis. If you really want to mock that fasting state, I would suggest limiting your carbs to under 20 net carbs per day for a couple of weeks and that will allow you to get in really deep ketosis, similar to fasting.

I am the biggest fan of intermittent fasting because it is safer than taking on a long fast. That being said, long fasts are also excellent but they must be under physician supervision due to extreme detox. If you want a really good read on fasting, I would highly recommend The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting by Dr. Jason Fung. It is a wonderful guide for all types of fasting. It is so interesting because in the book, he goes through how he has healed type 2 diabetics by having them fast for a few weeks. So inspirational!

Conclusion

I hope all of you have enjoyed this podcast for today! This podcast will conclude the Chakra series, however, I will be back with more podcasts and interviews in the future! I am so glad that you are here listening to how to heal your body through Keto and Energetic balance. It is the combination of the two, which is very powerful and a recipe for success. If you aren’t sure where to start, then I suggest you go to my Start Right Here page.

Do you struggle with trusting your gut instinct?

Do you suffer from going with your gut feeling?  If so, you may need to learn how to go with your intuition by opening your Third Eye Chakra.  The Third Eye Chakra is all about being able to foresee into the future! When this chakra is opening you feel very inspired and you are able to see with perfect clarity! The third eye center, which is located on your forehead between the eyebrows, is your center for intuition and vision into and around obstacles 1. Trusting our inner gut instinct is everything! If we can’t be intuitive in nature, then it will be hard to function or even do a keto diet. If something gives you an eery feeling, then go with it. In my life, I have really learned to value my gut feeling. There have been many times when I was uncertain of something but there was something that told me to go in a certain direction. I found that I usually was right in those times!

Overview of the Third Eye Chakra

The other name for this chakra is Brow Chakra or Ajna, in Sanskrit.  This chakra is known as the control center because it focuses on cultivating a strong and independent mind. It contains the mental applications we need for creating happy and wholesome lives. It is not usually active until our mid-thirties when we have accrued some life experience to weigh against the ideas we ingested at an early age2. Our past experiences in life are really what mold is into opening this chakra. Before you can open up this chakra, it is important for you to examine your self-worth. This hold true to the expression, ” Love yourself before you can love others.”

How do you know if your Third Eye Chakra is blocked?

If you have feelings of self- doubt or feel as if you are worthless, you may need Third Eye Chakra opening.  If you deny your natural state of being or carry a lot of fear in regard to your own inner wisdom, this chakra may also be blocked.  Again, as mentioned earlier, the inability to see the future and lack of intuition is another way you can tell that this chakra may be out of balance.

Medical conditions of a Third Eye Chakra

When your Third Eye Chakra is blocked, you can manifest some physical dysfunctions. Some of these may include brain tumors, neurological disturbances, deafness, full spinal difficulties, seizures, headaches, etc3. The Third Eye Chakra is tied in with the pituitary gland, which is located between the eyebrows. It is also called the “third eye” because it is the seat of intuition and clairvoyance4.

It turns out that the pituitary gland has a lot to do with experience, imagination, and clairvoyance. Your pituitary gland is pivotal for monitoring all of the other glands of the body. It is so important! When it is not working right, you can experience thyroid problems, adrenal or menstruation problems. These also may be indirect conditions of a blocked Third Eye Chakra.

Never stop your medical treatments, but do things to help balance your Third Eye Chakra

Like I have discussed in my prior podcasts, I am warning you of things that can potentially occur if any of these chakras are not in order. I would never suggest you stop any treatments if you’re under the care of a conventional medicine provider. However, do things naturally to open up your chakras or see a holistic practitioner for herbal remedies to help. You never know, improving your mental well-being by doing the intervention I mention may serve to help you a great deal.

What can cause your Third Eye Chakra to be off-kilter?

Failure to meet high standards

If you have felt that you have never lived up to make a lot of money or perfect grades in college, then your Third Eye Chakra needs opening. Unfortunately, these patterns get integrated into your mind, and you have to learn to release the past. Stop judging yourself! Think about how far you have come in life thus far. If it helps you, make a list of all of your accomplishments. Put that list where your desk is at work, on the refrigerator, or in your purse. Look at it daily so you can remember how successful you really have been.

Inability to feel good about yourself or inability to clearly see how you can complete obstacles

If you have struggled with self- esteem, then you may need Third Eye Chakra opening. I think that self-esteem coincides with the inability to see how you can complete any obstacle in your life. If you lack self-esteem obviously you won’t be able to see how you can get a promotion or graduate college. This all has to do with clairvoyance as well. This chakra is called the third eye because it is literally an extra eye for seeing vision into the future. If you can’t do this then it will absolutely throw off this chakra.

Lack of that gut instinct

As I mentioned earlier, we need to always listen to our solar plexus! If something just doesn’t look, smell or feel right, then go with it. I have experienced this several times as a clinician. I had a patient that came in several years ago and he was having just a little bit of belly pain and complained of constipation. His symptoms were very vague and did not seem acute, however, something told me that he had something bad going on. I just had an inner feeling that he needed to go to the hospital now and get a CAT Scan. There was something about the way he presented, which told me this was not belly pain from constipation. Fortunately, I did send him to the hospital for a CAT scan and then after that we learned his appendix had ruptured.

The crazy thing was that he did not have the symptoms where I would have thought that Thank goodness I sent him or else he could have died. That day, I was so glad that I had listened to my intuition. After that, I never second guess myself again.

Now, you may not be a medical provider, but your intuition is so important on a daily basis. I think sometimes we make a decision based on our gut instinct alone! Such as when we avoid eating a certain food or choose to go a certain direction when driving. Listen to your gut always! Not only will you be glad you did, but you will experience Third Eye Chakra opening.

Third Eye Chakra balancing

Now, I am going to go through ways to experience Third Eye Chakra opening. You can do all of the interventions I suggest or just one of them. Whatever you choose, it is up to you!

Trust your intuition with meditation

The first one I am going to mention is meditation, which is perfect for opening the Third Eye Chakra. Remember, meditation can be done anywhere and can be versatile. You can do a walking meditation, sitting, or lying in your bed. My favorite meditation is laying down in bed and listening to Solffregio Frequencies. All I do is take about 20 minutes of my time ( you can do less), put on the frequencies, and close my eyes. I like to use an eye mask to improve the relaxation experience.

I can not emphasize the importance of meditation. It is so calming for the sympathetic nervous system. Every day we are faced with life’s many challenges and our adrenal glands stay revved up. Over time, this is terrible for your health as it leads to an excess in cortisol, which can lead to other problems. You need to calm your nervous system and take time out for yourself.  As I mentioned before, even if you don’t want to meditate, take a short nap. Calm your body and mind. You deserve this!

Incorporate pineal activation during this meditation

While you are meditating, see if you can imagine a small violet flame surrounded by a deep indigo glowing halo in your third eye center. Feel the light move out past your heavy eyelids and onward to the sides of your face. As the light illuminates your head, visualize the flame moving behind your eyeballs in the center of your brain. Intend for the flame to reach your pineal gland, even if you can’t determine its exact position5.

When you are looking at this flame, try to notice it’s appearance. It may change color or grow. Imagine that this flame is helping with your intuition and allowing you to be clairvoyant. Release your old mental patterns, where you feel as if you don’t live up to standards or that your gut instinct is wrong. After this visual flame has burned for a few minutes during your meditation, put your hands together in prayer position in the center of your brows where your Third Eye Chakra is located. This will help to energetically activate this center.

Affirmations

Affirmations are great because they are nice words we say to ourselves, which can mentally help to change us. In my last podcast, I spoke about an actual study that was done which proved that affirmations physiologically activate reward centers in our brain. Some affirmations for Third Eye Chakra opening, include, ” I think the very best of myself in all situations, at all times”, ” I open myself to know my inner guidance and deepest wisdom”, and I align my consciousness with the source of all life.  When you say these words, make sure you stop and focus on how and why you are saying them. You want to say them with the best of intentions!

Using essential oils and gemstones for Third Eye Chakra opening

Gemstones

Gemstones are excellent for helping to open up this chakra. Not only are they good for meditation, but you can carry them around in your pocket or purse to absorb any negative energies. Protective Crystals & Gemstones repel away negative energies with a force field as the magnet does. Inside of your energy field, also called Aura, the crystal amplifies its protective energy to push away negative; because it is a protective crystal, The gemstones that pertain to this chakra include Lapis Lazuli, amethyst, fluorite, tanzanite, clear quartz, and star sapphire6.

Essential Oils

Essential oils can help open up your chakras because they may enhance your feeling of well-being. There are certain oils that you should use which are tailored to the Third Eye Chakra. These include lavender, frankincense, and sandalwood 7. As I’ve mentioned before, I like to take the oils and rub them between my hand along with the gemstones. Remember to always cleanse your gemstones at least once a month and especially after you first get them.

Opening your Third Eye Chakra with yoga

Yoga is hands down the best way to open up this chakra.  For the Third Eye Chakra, the focus is to see things from all perspectives- all poses right-side up, upside down, twisted or eye closed8. Focusing on forward bends or and of the child’s poses will also serve to stimulate this chakra. If you aren’t sure how to fit yoga into your day, do not worry. You can just do it from home in as little as fifteen minutes. The important thing is to be consistent every day and show up for yourself. If you try to do it at the same time every day, it will become ingrained in you and become a habit.

Other Third Eye Chakra opening tools

Focus on foods and colors to open the Third Eye Chakra

The foods that are associated with the Third Eye Chakra include black currants, blueberries, blackberries, eggplants, prunes, beets, and rainbow chard9. If any food has a dark blue or indigo hint, then eat when focusing on opening up this chakra. The same goes with clothing. You want to find clothes that are dark blue and indigo and add to your wardrobe. As I am saying this, I am thinking about a dark blue shirt that I haven’t worn in a while. I think that I may pull it out and see if it will strengthen my intuition and clairvoyance!

Remove fluoride from your diet

Do you filter your water? Did you realize that fluoride is terrible for your pineal gland? If you drink fluoridated water it will calcify the pineal gland which will throw your Third Eye Chakra off balance10. I would recommend removing fluoride from your water by using a water purifying system. I have a Propur water filter system and I have been very happy with it. Overall, it is important to filter your water anyways because pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides, and other toxic elements can be found in your water source. Yikes! Click here to visit www.propurusa.com

Keto diet and Third Eye Chakra opening

Overall, the Keto diet pairs very well with the Third Eye chakra opening. You may wonder how the Keto diet can help with clairvoyance, intuition, and self-esteem. Again, as I’ve mentioned in previous podcasts, it all comes down to those feel-good ketones which are beneficial for your brain function. The brain actually prefers ketones instead of glucose. When you are making ketones, your mind is sharper, which will help you to see into the future and want to go with your intuition. This in turn will affect your self-confidence.

As I before in my other podcasts, the ketogenic diet (KD) is a low-carb diet that substantially changes the energetic matrix of the body including the brain. Preclinical studies, case reports, and case series have demonstrated antidepressant and mood-stabilizing effects of KD. When you choose to follow a Keto diet, you are optimizing your brainpower, which in turn will optimize the pineal and pituitary gland.  If these glands are optimized, then your Third Eye Chakra will be more willing to open up.

Start the Keto diet today and start balancing your chakras

In conclusion, I am so glad that you are listening to my podcasts to learn about your chakras. They are so important for your well-being and my mission is to show you how the chakras are connected to the Keto diet. When you choose the Keto diet, mentally you will feel the effects and it will show up in your chakra alignment. I want you to improve your energetic body and live better! The Keto diet alone is not good enough; you need to do other interventions that I mention in these podcasts to help with your chakra balance. Improve creativity with Throat Chakra balance

Hi everyone! Jessica here. In this podcast today, I am going to talk about how you can improve your creativity with throat chakra balance. Is your throat chakra blocked? Have you struggled with self-expression, creativity, or speaking the truth? If so, then it may be time to tune- up your throat chakra.  The Throat Chakra is the first energetic center that differentiates man from all other life forms. This single human attribute gives us the power to express ourselves on every level of experience 1.

This chakra tends to shut down with grief or unexpressed feelings such as anger and fear.2If you have caught yourself lying or gossiping, this chakra will also shut down. Keeping this chakra in balance will also help with your keto diet and metabolism. The reason for this is because this chakra is closely related to your thyroid gland. If the throat chakra is left out of balance, then you can develop thyroid problems! I will explain this further in a little bit.

Overview of the Throat Chakra

Now, I’m going to give you a brief overview of the Throat Chakra. As I mentioned earlier, this chakra is closely related to your creativity and self-expression. The other name for this chakra is Vishuddha. The throat chakra directly affects the quality of our communication. It is linked to our personal integrity and sense of honor. If we deepen our commitment to expressing the truth, the Throat Chakra expands and becomes an invincible ally of the spirit, channeling energy for our physical vitality and spiritual development3.

The location of this chakra is near the internal and external throat4. It is directly related to our thyroid and parathyroid glands. Later on in this podcast, I will go through how it can affect thyroid function which can in turn affect your ability to do the keto diet.

How do you know if your throat chakra is blocked?

Medical conditions of a blocked Throat Chakra

As I mentioned before, you may know that the Throat Chakra is blocked if you experience a creativity block or inability to express yourself. You may find it hard to tell your best friend or husband how you feel! Some physical effects may include fatigue, weakness, and dissipation. You may even suffer from thyroid problems. Conventional medicine teaches us to always blame our family history for having a “thyroid” issue. What if it is not that, and it is a Throat Chakra block? Some other conditions that can manifest from this chakra being closed off include raspy throat, mouth ulcers, gum difficulties, TMJ, stiff neck, scoliosis, swollen glands5.

Never stop your medical treatments, but do things to help balance your Throat Chakra

Now that we have discussed some of the physical manifestations, I will reiterate something for you. When I talk about an imbalanced chakra’s physical dysfunctions, I am warning you of things that can potentially occur if these chakras are not in order. I would never suggest you stop any treatments if you’re under the care of a provider. However, that being said, I still think you should do interventions that I will mention to help your chakras. Who knows maybe some of these are a direct result of an imbalanced chakra. Incorporating these interventions are suitable, and you never know, you may start to heal and need less of your medications naturally.

What can cause your throat chakra to be off-kilter?

Put down that beer and stop overeating, these things will cause Throat Chakra imbalance

Did you also know that your throat chakra can become imbalanced if you consume alcohol, do other recreational drugs or overeat? Yes, that’s right. This chakra is damaged by all forms of substance abuse that pass through the throat. Alcohol, smoking, recreational and allopathic drugs, and over-eating all pass through the narrow opening of the throat and profoundly disrupt the energy flowing from the lower chakra up to the crown and third eye chakras5. The main reason for this is that substance abuse diminishes the will and prevents us from fully harnessing our vitality. It mutes our feelings and confuses and disorients our minds. It cuts us off from expressing our highest truths when they are most needed5.

Being under stress and trauma can lead to poor self-expression and creativity.

Chronic stress, trauma, conflict, and unaddressed issues create chakra imbalances that lead to significant physical, emotional, and mental health problems. Self-care is, therefore, of the utmost importance7. Many times, we tend to put ourselves last and take care of others first. Even though it is beautiful to give, you need to remember to show up for yourself. Carve out at least 30 minutes per day to do the things you love and express yourself. Remember, you are in the driver’s seat of your body and can improve your creativity for throat chakra balance!

Throat Chakra Balancing

Improve creativity with meditation by balancing your Throat Chakra

Meditation is excellent to improve your creativity with Throat Chakra balance. There have been times where I have struggled to be creative and feel sluggish. Sometimes, I may have a writer’s block or don’t feel very inspired. When this happens, I know that I need to take a time out. That is when I make it a point to stop everything I am doing and go meditating. Afterward, I usually feel so refreshed and can pick up where I left off with no problems. All it takes is at least 5-10 minutes of your day! If you can do more, then I would do it. Meditation is like vitamins for your body. During the day, our sympathetic nervous system is on constant overdrive. We are thinking about bills, our health, jobs, kids, the list goes on! It puts us in a fight or flight mode, which is not suitable for our nervous system or adrenal glands! Consistently, being in this state can lead to disease.

It seems the only time we get downtime is when we go to sleep! We need a break during the day too! As a matter of face, it is mandatory to take a nap during the day for restoration in some other countries. If you don’t want to meditate, then that’s another thing you could do! I understand that a lot of you work full time and a nap is just not feasible, that’s why I say choose meditation. Just go into your break room or turn off the lights and close your eyes if your at-home goes into another room. Get yourself into the zone and do it! Your body will sincerely thank you.

Affirmations

When meditating, I like to say affirmations to help to balance this chakra. When we say these words, our bodies believe them! A study done by the University of Pennsylvania used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to show that affirmations activate the brain’s reward centers. These areas, specifically the ventral striatum and ventromedial prefrontal cortex, are the same reward centers that respond to other pleasurable experiences, such as eating your favorite food or winning a prize. This just confirms that these affirmations work!

Some affirmations for the throat chakra include, ” I speak”, ” I live in my truth”, “I communicate my truth” and ” I am the truth8. These affirmations can really help a Throat Chakra become unblocked! Say these affirmations over and over when you meditate, wash the dishes, do laundry, do yoga. Whatever! I like to make flashcards and carry them around to refer to them frequently throughout the day. If you want to read a good book on affirmation, I would recommend Heal your body by Louise Hay. You can find the link to her book under my recommendations page. These affirmations can help to improve your creativity with throat chakra balance!

Using essential oils and gemstones during meditation

I think you should always have essential oils and gemstones in your toolbox to help your throat chakra become unblocked. They are beneficial during meditation, and you can also carry them around in your pocket or purse. The essential oils that are tailored to this chakra include lavender, rosemary, frankincense, German chamomile, and hyssop.9 The gemstones for this chakra include turquoise, blue kyanite, aquamarine, celestite, iolite, sodalite, and lapis lazuli10.

When it comes to these essential oils and gemstones, you can purchase them separately or buy them in a kit. Earlier this year, I bought a package that included the gemstones and the essential oils that are tailored to each chakra. For example, if I know my throat chakra is out of balance, I use an essential oil out of the kit and gemstone out of the kit that is specific to balancing that chakra. This kit is fantastic and just makes things easier for me. If you are interested in purchasing it, you can go to my recommendations page, and it is under chakra balancing.

It is important to remember always to cleanse your stones after you first purchase them and from time to time. These precious gemstones are working hard to absorb negative energies from your body. You have to take time out to tend to them. I like to burn white sage to cleanse mine. Usually, I will burn this sage and direct the smoke towards the gemstones and say words such as, ” please cleanse these stones from all old energies.”

Improve creativity with Throat Chakra balance by doing yoga

Yoga is a wonderful intervention to help improve creativity if your Throat Chakra is blocked! I have found yoga to be perfect for helping to get me inspired on those days that I struggle with this chakra. If I lack motivation or creativity, I just stop whatever it is I am doing and do yoga. I could be writing for the blog or teaching my kids, and realize, “wow, I need a time out.” If this is the case, I just go in my room and turn on a 30-minute yoga video from youtube or Cat Meffan’s soul sanctuary series. Afterward, I feel so much better and find that it helps in terms of being creative.

The Throat Chakra is about speaking your truth, so neck flexibility helps with fluency here. Great poses for opening the throat chakra include Warrior II, Camel pose, Bridge pose, Triangle Pose, Extended side angle, shoulderstand, and plow pose11.

Other throat chakra opening tools

Sleep

First, I am going to talk about sleep! If you don’t get adequate snooze time, it will be hard to be creative and can contribute to a blocked throat chakra! When you sleep at night and go into your different sleep cycles, your brain refreshes itself and decodes all the day’s information. If you don’t restore your mind, then it will be challenging to find that creativity. In fact, there is research led by a leading expert on the positive benefits of napping at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine suggests that Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep enhances creative problem-solving.12

You need good sleep hygiene!

You may have heard of the expression, ” let me sleep on it. ” Well, that is very literal! You need to do whatever you can do get the best sleep possible! There are many factors involved in a good night’s sleep. It is all comes down to sleep hygiene and core body temperature. Please go to thatorganicmom.com, as she has an excellent section on sleep hygiene.  I have recently altered my sleep hygiene and made sure that I go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time. This may sound boring, but for me, it helps me function better. I also limit electronics before bed and do not drink any caffeinated beverages after noon.

Low core body temperature is essential for sleep!

When it comes to core body temperature, it is essential to be cool for sleep if your Throat Chakra is blocked. According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), the suggested ideal temperature for sleep is somewhere between 15.5 degrees C (60 degrees F) and 19.4 degrees C (67 degrees F). When I first learned this, I thought, wow, I am going to run up my electric bill during the summer to keep my room cool! Fortunately, a friend of mine recommended a Chilipad. I purchased this about a month ago and have been very happy with it. I have found that it has allowed me to sleep through the night by keeping my body cool and also helps to save my electric bill! If you are interested, go to show notes, and under sleep, click Chilipad.

Singing

Singing is excellent if your Throat Chakra is blocked! You can incorporate songs with your affirmations. First, find a mirror, and then practice speaking from deep in your abdomen while creating a deep vocal resonance as you say, “I live in my truth.” If you want to sing in the shower, just do it and don’t feel embarrassed. Maybe sing while driving in a car. I know I prefer to sing when nobody is around. If you have a good voice, sing in front of people. Singing is so good for strengthening this chakra!

I love it when my five-year-old son sings because I know he is opening up his Throat Chakra! He has speech twice a week, so he has struggled with throat chakra opening. I know he is starting to open this chakra because his speech is starting to improve, and he is revealing his self-expression.

Other tips

Some other tips for opening up the throat chakra include reading aloud and chanting the mantra sound, “Hum.” It is also good to drink teas, which help to soothe the throat, such as peppermint, slippery elm, and spearmint. Even wearing the color blue will help to open up the Throat Chakra13.

Get a healing practitioner

Also, I didn’t mention this in my other podcasts, but I would also recommend you see a homeopathic physician, Reiki practitioner, chiropractor, or naturopathic doctor if your Throat Chakra is blocked. The reason for this is because they can give you flower essences which are a combination of natural herbs to help open up your chakras. I have an excellent homeopathic physician and a chiropractor, who I see. The homeopathic physician uses a tool on me called an electrodermal scan. This is a special device that is used to measure energetic imbalances. It is beneficial for identifying problem areas even before the disease can manifest itself. It is a known fact that early detection of energy changes in acupuncture points will direct us to where attention needs to be, which will allow us to intervene homeopathically before needing conventional medicine.

My chiropractor has also been wonderful! A lot of people don’t realize this, but chiropractic care is not just there to adjust your spine. When you get regular adjustments, it really helps in terms of energetic balance, which will in turn align your chakras.

Now, I have not gotten a Reiki practitioner yet because my homeopathic physician has been able to help me with the chakras with the electrodermal scan. However, having one is always a good option, because they really can help to heal your chakras. They usually do this in a session. If you want to read both about electrodermal screening or a Reiki practitioner, you can go to my show notes and I have links to both of them. Currently, I am working on a Reiki certification myself!

Keto diet and throat chakra balance

The keto diet goes hand in hand with helping to improve creativity if your Throat Chakra is blocked! First of all, when you produce those feel-good ketones, they are beneficial for your brain function. The brain actually prefers ketones instead of glucose. When you are making ketones, your mind is sharper, which will allow creativity to blossom. As I mentioned in my previous podcast, the ketogenic diet (KD) is a low-carb diet that substantially changes the energetic matrix of the body including the brain. Preclinical studies, case reports, and case series have demonstrated antidepressant and mood-stabilizing effects of KD.

The indirect relationship between thyroid function, throat chakra, and the keto diet

Overall, there is an indirect relationship between the thyroid function, throat chakra, and ability to do the keto diet. As I mentioned earlier in this podcast, there is a direct relationship between the Throat Chakra and thyroid. If your Throat Chakra is off, then your thyroid may be off. If you cannot follow the keto diet and are not producing those wonderful ketones, you will not be as creative. This, in turn, will directly affect your throat chakra, which can then change your thyroid. If your thyroid is affected, your body’s basal metabolism will be impaired, which can also affect your mental status.

So, as you can see, it is a delicate balance. Everything feeds off on each other! The keto diet can help you feel good to be more creative, which in turn will help your throat chakra, and then your thyroid!

Start the keto today and start balancing your chakras

Overall, I have noticed improved benefits in my life with the keto diet and energetic balance. That is specifically why I have dedicated an entire blog to this lifestyle! These two concepts are very connected and work together like a feedback system. Through my own experience, I have found improved health and well-being my doing a keto diet in combination with interventions to help improve my energetic body. I want you to feel this way too. The keto diet alone is just not good enough; you need to get nutrients from taking out precious time for yourself as well. This can be with meditation, yoga, walking, prayer, singing. Whatever you choose! After all, you are the driver here. I just lead you to the water, and you drink it up! Please sign up for my email list and join me on a journey towards wellness.
